On 28 August 2026 the US Mission in India announced that the Indian Army had signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) for the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile under the US Foreign Military Sales route. An LOA is a government-to-government instrument. In November 2025 the DSCA had cleared a proposed $45.7 million package of 100 Javelin rounds and 25 Lightweight Command Launch Units. Javelin, from the Lockheed Martin-RTX joint venture, is fire-and-forget with top-attack capability.

Explanation

The Union Cabinet approved PARIVARTAN on 3 June 2026 and operational guidelines were issued in July 2026. It seeks to replace over 2 lakh BS-IV or older trucks and buses registered in Delhi and the NCR districts of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh with BS-VI or electric vehicles. Total outlay is Rs 9,585 crore, including Rs 5,041 crore central support. Funding flows through NCRPB under MoHUA; MoRTH implements. These vehicles are 3 per cent of the NCR fleet but 36 per cent of its PM2.5.

Explanation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tashkent on Saturday, 29 August 2026, for a two-day state visit and was received at the airport by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This is Modi's fourth visit to Uzbekistan. Delegation-level talks covered trade, investment, digital connectivity, defence, energy and education. He then attends the 26th SCO Summit at Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, on 31 August-1 September 2026, marking the SCO's 25th anniversary.
